ORTHODOX
MONASTICISM
INTRODUCTION
"Orthodoxy infused in time does not
flee to the desert nor does it set an earthly Rome. History has proved both futile. The
solution wherever and whenever necessity arises is a breath of the Spirit through
the Word. Monasticism is an "attentive ear," an "upper
room" hosting a continued Pentecost. It is also a spring of divine gifts
flowing towards everyone. This is what His Beatitude Patriarch Ignatius IV has
inspired in us, and Balamand is the fruit of his labor offered to the Orient by all its
institutions."
(Met. Paul Yazigi)
